The prospect of building your wardrobe foundation for a new fashion season is always super exciting! But can also be a little bit daunting with countless trends coming through on the runways. The big question always is: What should I be investing in?
Layering pieces are the hardest working pieces in any contemporary wardrobe, so it is worthwhile having those beautifully made, high quality garments which you know will last for seasons to come.
We are here to help you with our favourite layering tips for maximum style impact. These are our 6 key pieces for Autumn 2022 and how to style them throughout the season.
Knee high boots have been an autumn and winter favourite for years, and for good reason. They’re extremely versatile and can make your legs appear slimmer and longer. We recommend going for a black or neutral boot with a heel so that you can get plenty of wear out of them. When buying a pair of knee-high boots, you want to make sure they sit at the top of your calves, aka the smallest part of your legs and not mid-calf. This will ensure you get the elongating effect.

The trench coat is a quintessential piece for Autumn dressing. It will work for so many different occasions, whether it be for work, a nice lunch or just running errands on a rainy or windy day. It’s the ultimate way to stay protected from the weather without losing your fashionable edge.

A good leather jacket can last you a lifetime and we believe that it is a must in every woman’s wardrobe. Opt for a neutral colour, whatever that is for you, something that will go back with your overall style and colour palette. While black might be the obvious choice, a beautiful shade of tan might be better suited to someone with lighter colouring or someone who wears a lot of white/softer pastel colours. In terms of style, there are so many options: a traditional biker jacket, a blazer or something a little more fun and fashion. It’s completely subjective and dependent on your personal style!

You presumably already have a collection of staple knits in neutral colours, so why not invest in a great quality jumper with a fun print or even a colour that you’ve always loved. As the weather cools down and you find yourself having to cover up your beautiful tops with sweaters, get ahead of the problem and make a statement with the knit itself. We love this IRO abstract print knit in charcoal and white to pair back with a pop of colour (image below, left).

Perhaps we will sound like a broken record, but you absolutely cannot go past a great pair of jeans. The fashion world has seemingly moved away from the skinny jean which has meant that the slim jean has taken its place, and rightfully so. A great pair of mid- or high-rise slim leg or straight jeans are going to hug you in all the right places and elongate your legs. Go for a black wash or dark blue denim to pair back with any knit, silk blouse or t-shirt.

Just because its getting colder, doesn’t mean you have to stop wearing short skirts and dresses! An A-line mini skirt can be worn all year round with a great pair of boots, a long coat or a pair of tights. We’ve styled this tan leather mini with a crisp cotton shirt (image below) which you could easily layer with a knit and knee high boots.

Suddenly, the thought of cold weather doesn’t seem so bad right?
